She says some of her asks on social care “are actually quite modest”. But some of her asks will be “not be quite so modest”, she says.
You can go further back than that because it was 50 years ago this year that Barbara Castle, as health and social services secretary, argued for stronger integration of the NHS and social care.
And we cannot keep walking away from this problem.
Ultimately this we are here because of leadership and because of the leadership of our prime minister, Andy Burnham, who has been passionate about the need to reform social care for decades, who was arguing 15 years ago for major changes to deliver social care that provides proper dignity and support for families.
